Ultrasound-Guided FNAC, Biopsy and Procedures in Kandivali West

Ultrasound guidance transforms tissue sampling from an approximate process into a precise one. By watching the needle in real time on the scan screen, the radiologist places it exactly into the target, whether a 6mm thyroid nodule, a deep lymph node or a fluid collection. This reduces the risk of injury to surrounding structures and significantly improves the quality of the sample obtained.

Medical laboratory procedure and biopsy

Procedures We Offer

Thyroid FNAC

Fine needle aspiration of thyroid nodules to determine whether a nodule is benign or requires further investigation. Avoids unnecessary surgery for most patients.

Breast FNAC and Core Biopsy

Tissue sampling of breast lumps or suspicious areas. Core biopsy provides a more detailed tissue sample when FNAC is inconclusive.

Lymph Node FNAC

Sampling of enlarged lymph nodes in the neck, axilla or groin to investigate infection, lymphoma or metastatic disease.

Abdominal Mass Biopsy

Ultrasound-guided core biopsy of liver lesions, renal masses or other intra-abdominal targets for histopathological diagnosis.

Pleural Tapping

Guided drainage of fluid from around the lungs for diagnostic analysis or symptomatic relief.

Ascitic Tapping

Guided drainage of fluid from the abdominal cavity for diagnosis or to relieve pressure and breathlessness.

When is This Needed?

  • A thyroid nodule has been detected on scan and your doctor needs to know if it requires surgery or can be monitored.
  • A breast lump has been found on self-examination or imaging and a tissue diagnosis is needed.
  • Lymph nodes in the neck, armpit or groin have been enlarged for more than a few weeks without a clear cause.
  • Fluid has accumulated around the lungs or in the abdomen and a sample is needed to find out why.
  • A lesion in the liver or kidney has been found incidentally and biopsy is recommended before treatment planning.

Why Ultrasound Guidance Matters

Single-Operator Precision

Dr. Oswal performs both the guiding scan and the needle procedure himself, ensuring the needle is always placed exactly where the imaging shows it needs to go.

Real-Time Needle Visualisation

The entire needle path is visible on screen throughout the procedure, improving accuracy and reducing the risk of complications.

Specialist-Level Competency

The EDiR qualification and DNB Radiology training include procedural ultrasound as a core component, meeting an international standard.

What to Expect

  1. The skin over the procedure site is cleaned and a local anaesthetic is injected to numb the area before the needle is placed. Most patients feel only mild pressure, not pain.
  2. The entire procedure is guided on a live ultrasound screen. You will be asked to remain still and may be asked to hold your breath briefly at one point.
  3. FNAC takes 5 to 10 minutes. Core biopsy and fluid drainage procedures typically take 15 to 30 minutes.
  4. You will be observed briefly after the procedure. The tissue or fluid sample is sent to a pathology laboratory and results are typically available within 2 to 5 working days.
